Olga Noronha’s Medically Prescribed Jewellery
What it Is:
Olga Noronha is a young Portuguese jewellery designer who has been revolutionising that art with her stunning and emotion-laden creations.
And now she has done it again, with a new line called “Medically Prescribed Jewellery”, an evolution of her “Conflict:Rejection/Attraction” concept that, in her own words “…is an exploration of a merger between anatomy, medicine and jewel-like objects. The combined use of actual surgery tools and their replicas are transformed into jewellery pieces without being dissociated from their original function. My intention is to turn the distasteful into the desirable, to switch the response from rejection to attraction”.
Why it is Cool:
Because her avowed aim is to use jewellery – in all its beauty – as a vessel to encapsulate essential, high feelings and sentiments and, thus, to turn it into a medium to propagate and give them more permanence and depth. And this is something that the world is sorely in deed of.
